Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to present the fall of the Balkan lands under Ottoman rule, as it is preserved in the people’s memory and was reflected in part of the folk epic of the southern Slavs, in the historical and heroic songs. In the course of the study, examples from Bulgarian, Serbian, and Croatian folklore will be examined, and the general typological, persistent, and individual moments in the presentation of themes, plots, and characters in the Balkan epic will be searched and analyzed.
