A Few Methodological Remarks on Anna Janota-Strama’s Book

Summary/Abstract: This review article providesa critical analysis of Anna Janota-Stramy’sbook on the image of Napoleon in nine-teenth-century Polish memoirs. It criticisesthe methodology used, emphasising short-comings that largely stem from uncertaintyabout adopting one defi nition of a memoir.The article also polemicises with someof the author’s statements. It refl ects on theorigins and achievements of Napoleonic his-toriography, highlighting areas that requirefurther research, such as the administrationand economy of the Duchy of Warsaw, aswell as biographies of leading fi gures.
