Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to Zofia Kicka née Matuszewicz who was born in 1796 in Sieniawa to Tadeusz Matuszewicz, Minister of Revenue and Treasury of the Duchy of Warsaw, and Marianna Wielopolska primo voto Przebendowska. When her mother died in 1800, Zofia was placed in the legal custody of Duke Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski and his wife Izabela Czartoryska. The girl quickly became the family’s favorite and conquered Duchess Izabela Czartoryska’s heart. Zofia was depicted as the duchess’ beloved charge, and the plans of her marriage to Adam Jerzy Czartoryski were widely discussed in the literature.
