Summary/Abstract: The article presents the literary genre of the textless picturebook – its specific attributes and the terms definition in Slovak. The genre defines the absence of written author’s text, narrative character, specific rules, a shorter scope (usually a simple story) and a small number of characters (children, anthropomorphized heroes or natural animals). Four primary areas manifest the didactic potential of the textless picturebook: the development of literary literacy, book-engaging stimulation, dialogues about the books, and an emphasis on student critical thinking.
