Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the influence of comics on the development of reading literacy in children with atypical development, namely children with a deviation in the development of intellect and children with a hearing impairment. Comics are used as a specific medium that connects the text and image components and thus supports the understanding of the content and context of the message. In both groups of children, which are characterized by stronger visual perception and weakened audit processing of information, reading comics can serve as an effective tool for the development of language skills, understanding of the text and motivation to read. At the same time, the paper points out the importance of a targeted and systematic management of joint reading, which can also have a rehabilitation and socialization function. Examples of how to work with comics and complementary activities that help to develop not only reading literacy, but also the ability to interpret, express emotions and understand social situations are described.
