Summary/Abstract: The accession of the Republic of Bulgaria to the eurozone represents a strategically important step in the development of the country and its integration into the European Union. The process of implementing this step encompasses not only a number of economic aspects, but also legal, social and political ones, which predetermine the emergence of the desired positive consequences of the country‘s membership in the eurozone. The historical review of the process of adopting the euro in other member states of the European Union shows that the transition from the national currency to the common European currency requires very good and long-term preparation, stability of macroeconomic indicators and a high degree of public support. This is because this process is inextricably linked to the commitment of the acceding state to fulfill a number of legal conditions regulated in European Union law, as well as to implement a significant number of changes in its national legal framework.Despite the many challenges facing the acceding state, in the case of the Republic of Bulgaria, the introduction of the euro is an indicator of the national authorities‘ desire to meet the highest European standards and to be a full member of the European family. In the Republic of Bulgaria, the adoption of the euro has become and continues to be a topic that causes wide debate among politicians, economists, political scientists and, above all, among Bulgarian citizens. Individual members of society express different opinions both on the benefits of adopting the euro and in the opposite direction. Of great importance in this regard is the objective analysis of the upcoming challenges facing the country, which have economic, political, social and legal dimensions. This report will present the main legal requirements of the process of joining the euro area, the challenges during the transition period, the benefits and prospects for our country from the realization of this key event.
