Summary/Abstract: Janusz Krajewski was the first director and organizer of the Joint Li- braries, which were formed in the 1950s. Thanks to his work, the three libraries collaborated in collecting, developing, and providing access to collections, while maintaining separate budgets and inventory records. The legislative, social, and scientific conditions surrounding the creation of this pioneering solution will be considered. The aim of this article is to present Krajewski as a man with a pro- found respect for working with books and readers. In 1952, he defended his mas- ter’s thesis in philosophy, written under the supervision of Władysław Tatarkie- wicz, and he remained involved with this discipline for the rest of his life. In the following years, he was tasked with organizing and consolidating three complemen- tary book collections at the Joint Libraries. He devoted 20 years of his life to this library, directing it until his retirement in 1973. The article presents the role of the first director in organizing the Joint Libraries as a workshop for philosophers and sociologists. The process of organizing the library is presented against the backdrop of the development of scientific librarianship during the communist era 138 Katarzyna Jarzyńska, „Opiekun wszystkich filozofów i socjologów” in Poland. An analysis of dedications made to Krajewski highlights the importance of his work for library users.
