Summary/Abstract: This article is the result of research conducted as part of my current doctoral research, „The History and Reconstruction of the Book Collection of the Polish Philosophical Society”. The Polish Philosophical Society is one of the most important philosophical organizations in Poland. Its book collection is the small- est deposited in the Joint Libraries of the Faculties of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Warsaw, the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Polish Philosophical Society, yet it is also the most valuable due to its abundance of 19th-century publications. The publications in the collection contain many ownership marks, reflecting the Society’s numerous trans- formations. The article provides a qualitative and provenance analysis of this book collection. Provenance and bibliographic methods are used to examine the charac- teristics of selected items. Selected examples of books from private and institutional collections demonstrate the interconnections between their previous owners. The long and complex history of the Polish Philosophical Society is also reflected.
