Summary/Abstract: The editor of this journal spoke with the prominent Croatian historian professor Dr. Hrvoje Matković, the author of such well-known monographs as Povijest Nezavisne Države Hrvatske [The History of the Independent State of Croatia], now in its third edition, Povijest Jugoslavije [The History of Yugoslavia], now in its second edition, Povijest Hrvatske seljačke stranke [The History of the Croat Peasant Party] as well as Svetozar Pribićević i Samostalna demokratska stranka do šestojanuarske diktature [Svetozar Pribićević and the Independent Democratic Party up to the 6 January Dictatorship]. We spoke about how he became a historian, who influenced his professional development, the position of Croatian historiography during socialism, how certain sensitive topics were approached during that era, his views on the current debate about the Croatian Homeland War (or the war of independence), and also how he views the teaching of history in primary and secondary schools today.
