Summary/Abstract: This article discusses selected female experiences at KL Auschwitz-Birkenau. The interpretation of the camp experiences is based on Alina Dąbrowska’s spoken book I know how the hell looks. The text briefly outlines the circumstances of the book’s creation. It also describes the problems faced by female prisoners at Auschwitz: lack of hygiene, shaving of hair, illness and pseudo-medical experiments. Other important issues adressed in the article include memory, trauma, silence, temporal distance and individual female camp testimony.
