Summary/Abstract: In the normative literature of modern Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian, nouns denoting seasons are treated differently in terms of their adverb fusion when they come with prepositions: on the one hand, these are prepositional-case constructions with a temporal meaning, and on the other hand, a temporal adverb is obtained by fusion of these components. In the second case, some of these four nouns participate less frequently in this way of word formation, and sometimes the preposition that comes with them is also crucial. This paper will address this problem, which is differently presented in the orthographic, grammatical and dictionary literature of the three standard languages, with special reference to the manuals of the Bosnian language, but will also examine the status and meaning of individual constructions and compound adverbs in the corpus of the written language in order to determine the relationship to the norms. The prepositions u, na and pod with the nouns proljeće, ljeto, jesen and zima form accusative constructions with temporal meaning, while the preposition s with these nouns forms a genitive construction with temporal meaning, with both cases having grammatical and semantic limitations. As normative manuals offer inconsistent solutions regarding the writing of the preposition-noun combination, this situation is confirmed by the written corpus of the Bosnian language, which indicates the need for a more valid definition of normative manuals according to the fusion of the aforementioned constructions with temporal meaning or the preservation of their constituent parts. Based on the analysis conducted in this paper, it is concluded that the argumentation about the development of a new meaning in these fusions does not have such a strong justification, and that the separated writing of the preposition and the noun denoting the season would simplify the rule and make it easily applicable.
