Summary/Abstract: Coins on the territory of the modern Ukraine appeared actually immediately after the first coins to appear in the human history. Exposition of the Money Museum of the National Bank of Ukraine is proceeding to show the development of monetary circulation on the territory of Ukraine. Antique coins in the exposition of the museum are represented by coins of the North Black sea coast and coins of the Roman Empire. In the exposition we can see the coins of the North Black sea coast where we can mark a large casted coin of Olvia – the ass with the images of Medusa Gorgoni and the scene of the eagle attacking the dolphin. There are also coins of Kerkinitida, Tyra and minted on the Berezan island, Chersonesus, Іstria, Panticapei, and even more – in the common Bosporan kingdom. On April 25, 2002, Vladlen Opanasovich Anokhin offered to purchase a collection of his coins of the Northern Black Sea coast. In addition to the coins of the ancient polis states of the Northern Black Sea coast, the offer also included coins of the Golden Horde and the Ottoman Empire. Particular attention was paid to the presence among the collection of coins of Olbia, the so-called dolphins, an important factor in making a positive decision to purchase was made because of the rare dolphin with the inscription «ARIXO». We also studied the elemental composition of the Olbia dolphin, after two measurements on the obverse and reverse, it was found that the coin is made of a homogeneous metal – tin bronze with natural micro-impurities, which is characterized by a low content of cobalt. Among the 53 coins handed over to scientists, special attention is drawn to the bronze assarium of Tyra, which according to the scientist’s observations at the time of sale was almost one of the 10 known in the world. Coins of Ulus Juchi are represented by copper pools and silver dangs of Khan Kulny and Kildibek, Ottoman coins are silver coins of the Ottoman Empire, minted during the reign of Sultan Bayezid II and Sultans minted during the reign of Selim I. Thus, the National Bank has purchased 49 coins from Vladlen Anokhin’s collection. We can also underline that the documents signed by a world spread well-known numismatist containing a statement and signature filled in by scientists, have a peculiar value (owner’s note, contract of sale, act of acceptance-transfer etc). All purchased coins are currently exhibited in the relevant parts of the exhibition and serve the main task of the museum – to tell our visitors about the history of money circulation in Ukraine, to open its incredibly interesting pages and increase the interest of generations in the history and culture of our people.
