Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyse the geopolitical determinants of Mozambique'sstability, focusing on its strategic location on the Indian Ocean and natural gas resourcesin the Rovuma basin. An attempt is made to explain how Portugal's colonial legacy, thecivil war between FRELIMO and RENAMO, and the political and social crisis of 2025,characterised by FRELIMO's authoritarianism, corruption and conflict in Cabo Delgado, destabilise the region. Using theories of dependency, social conflict and failed states, thework identifies neo-imperial and neo-colonial mechanisms in the actions of superpowersand international corporations that exploit the country's resources, exacerbating socialinequalities and instability. The analysis shows that the weakness of state institutions andthe lack of inclusive governance are transforming Mozambique's potential into a source ofchaos.
