The Work of the Tešanj City Administration through the Minutes of the Municipal Council Sessions (1918–1923)

Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on a highly significant five-year period in the history of the town of Tešanj (1918–1923)—a time when Bosnia and Herzegovina emerged from the Great War and from the framework of a European empire, entering the newly formed Balkan state, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. It was a period marked by major political changes (the transition of state authority), economic challenges (the recovery of a war-devastated economy), and social transformations (changes in local governance and adaptation to new circumstances). All socio-economic developments occurring in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time were reflected, to a lesser extent, in the town of Tešanj. Rather than analyzing the broader historical context of this transitional period, the paper provides—based on excerpts from the minutes of the Tešanj Municipal Council sessions—a thematic overview of the issues discussed, and decisions made by the city councillors between 1919 and 1923, accompanied by essential explanatory notes.
