Summary/Abstract: Hasnija Berberović was the fi rst Bosniak woman who had passed the teacher’s exam in 1909, and she spent next 29 years (1909 – 1938) teaching in Muslim elementary school and in High school for girls in Sarajevo. During 1930’s she had been director of „Gajret“ boarding school for girls, member and activist of women cultural society „Gajret“ and founder and the fi rst president of muslim women society „Osvitanje“ (Daybreak) in Sarajevo. Due to her devotion and efforts, Hasnija Berberović earned prominent place in the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s muslim education history and particularly in improving position of women in her time.
