HISTORY OF THE ORIGIN AND FORMATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL CULTURE AND FUNDAMENTALS OF HEALTH OF IZMAIL STATE UNIVERSITY OF HUMANITIES

Summary/Abstract: The history of the origin and formation of the Department of physical culture, biology and fundamentals of Health is closely connected with the activities of the Izmail State Pedagogical Institute, and since March 2002 with the Izmail State University for the Humanities. Over the years of its existence, Izmail State University for the Humanities has experienced a lot: a stage of difficult formation and a tragic break in work during World War II, moving to Izmail and adapting to a new place, difficulties in forming the teaching staff and material base, construction of new buildings and establishing international scientific cooperation, and much more. For 82 years, the university has become not only the hallmark of the Ukrainian Danube Region, it has clearly demonstrated its readiness to constantly update and meet the challenges of the time. The main wealth of Izmail State University for the Humanities is its teachers, staff and students. Tens of thousands of graduates who have left and are working all over the country and abroad proudly and warmly call Izmail State University for the Humanities «almamater». One of the features of Izmail State University for the Humanities is that it is the oldest higher education institution in the Ukrainian Danube Region, which has a rich history and traditions, and the fate of thousands of people is connected with it. Having started its work 82 years ago, in 1940, as the Akkerman Teachers’ Institute, the institution went through several important stages in its development: moving to Izmail and forming the Izmail Teachers’ Institute here, turning it into the Izmail Pedagogical Institute, and finally obtaining the status of a university. The University concentrates a significant scientific creative and intellectual potential of the Ukrainian Danube region. An important role and responsibility in the training of applicants for higher education is assigned to the Department of Physical Culture, Biology and Fundamentals of Health, whose work is related to strengthening and preserving the health of students. The efforts of scientific and pedagogical workers of the department are always aimed at developing the latest pedagogical technologies for improving the educational process of physical education, monitoring the functional state and health of students, educating healthy and comprehensively developed specialists, high-quality organization and conducting physical education classes, training and sports improvement of university students, preparation for competitions of various levels.
