Summary/Abstract: The article highlights the openings offered by pragmatics to school competence, here being included the orientation towards the practice of meaningful action of the student, to the formation of him "fit for action", engaged in an efficient practice, with noticeable practical effects. The pragmatic method is approached interpretively, which involves the attempt to capitalize on each opinion according to its practical consequences. Awareness of the implications and requirements of competence generates great changes at the level of social interactions. Approaching contemporary society, as a knowledge society, brings to the forefront changes in vision regarding the formation and development of competences, as a subject of increasingly active public interest. Competence from a pragmatic perspective is a need that both students and social systems have, it is an important need, a very strong intrinsic motivator, a generator of all the student's efforts to perform.
