Summary/Abstract: At the end of the activity at Saint Sava in Bucharest, a new teaching method was put into practice, represented by monitorial education. It was introduced by Dimitrie Vilie, during the leadership of Vardalah and taken over after the model of G. Cleobul from Iași. In Bucharest, mutual education was harshly criticized by the Church. One opponent was even Metropolitan Grigore, who saw in it a serious attack on the faith. The mutual or Lancasterian method, also known by many other names: mutual or monitorial education, allilodidactic, was based on the principle of helping students. Older students, at a more advanced stage of education, allowed the transmission of knowledge to younger students, under the strict supervision of the teacher.
