Summary/Abstract: This article explores the conceptualization of time in French idiomatic expressions by integrating linguistic, philosophical and cultural perspectives. Drawing on thinkers such as Plato, Augustine, Kant, Bergson, Blaga, Hall and Eliade, the study shows that time is not merely a measurable physical category, but a culturally mediated construct shaped by collective memory and symbolic frameworks. French and Romanian idioms reveal diverse representations of duration, transience, irreversibility and mythical or experiential time. A contrastive analysis highlights the challenges of translating temporal idioms, which require not only semantic equivalence but also the preservation of imagery, stylistic value and cultural connotations. Ultimately, the phraseology of time emerges as a meaningful site for understanding how communities interpret temporal experience and articulate their worldview.
