Summary/Abstract: The work “When the World Was a Story” explores the role of myth in traditional culture and its relevance in contemporary society. Starting from the analysis of archaic thought, the work highlights the multiple functions of myth: explanatory, social, and ritual, as well as its archetypal symbolism (fire, wall, sacrifice, tree, hero). The case study of the legend of Meșterul Manole illustrates how sacrifice, creation, and collective responsibility become moral and symbolic benchmarks for the community. The essay compares the structure of traditional myth with its modern manifestations in literature, film, and media, demonstrating the continuity of archetypal symbols and functions. Ultimately, it emphasizes that myth remains a universal language, a framework of meaning for humanity, capable of transcending time and adapting to contemporary culture.
