Summary/Abstract: The present text (which we offer to the readers of the journal Pagini de filosofie) is probably one of the most philosophical texts ever written by a grammarian. It concerns the Brahmakāṇḍa, or Section on Brahman, by the Indian grammarian Bhartṛhari from the 5th century CE, an emblematic figure of the distinguished Indian grammatical tradition that begins with Pāṇini. Pāṇini is the one who recorded, regulated, and therefore standardized—with remarkable aphoristic concision in the Aṣṭādhyāyī—the standard spoken Sanskrit language (bhāṣa) of his time, in its phonetic, morphological, and syntactic aspects.
