Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the complex interplay between media, political power, and democratic participation in contemporary Europe. In an era dominated by digital communication and social networks, disinformation represents one of the most pervasive threats to informed citizenship and public trust. Drawing on recent European case studies, including electoral contexts and civic movements, the paper explores how false narratives are constructed, disseminated, and maintained, as well as the ways political and economic interests shape media agendas. It further analyses the implications of media manipulation for democratic resilience and the role of media literacy as a tool for critical engagement. Finally, the study reflects on the ethical responsibilities of journalists, institutions, and citizens in safeguarding truth and transparency in public discourse.
