THE PROVERBS IN THE METALINGUISTIC DISCOURSE OF ITALIAN TEACHERS WITH THIRD-YEAR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AT BLIDA 2 UNIVERSITY

Summary/Abstract: This study explores how Italian language teachers use proverbs in metalinguistic discourse with third-year university students at Blida 2 University. Through a qualitative and observational approach, the research investigates how proverbs serve as didactic and cultural tools that enhance linguistic understanding and intercultural competence. The study highlights the pedagogical functions of proverbs in fostering reflection on language use, grammatical structures, and communication strategies. Results reveal that the integration of proverbs into teaching promotes engagement, motivation, and deeper metalinguistic awareness among students.
