Summary/Abstract: Octavian Vorobchievici was a romanian officer born in Bârlad (1896), who died in Roșiori de Vede (1987), a participant in both world wars. During World War I, as a young officer of the Romanian Army (he received his first rank in 1916), he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Turtucaia, miraculously avoiding amputation of his leg. In World War II (as a colonel) he received command of the 53rd Infantry-Fortification Regiment, with which he crossed the Prut River in 1941 at Oancea-Cahul. Since 1940 he has been a member of the Romanian Academy of Sciences, Military Section. He died on April 7, 1987, in Roșiori de Vede, after refusing to eat for 23 days.
