Summary/Abstract: Historiographical studies of the coinage of the Bosporan Kingdom are the result of the exchange of information between researchers of different generations in the global geographic and virtual spaces, usually at the intersection of archaeology, economic history, numismatics and epigraphy, sphragistics, cultural anthropology, history, etc. disciplines, in particular contextual numismatics as the latest and most innovative direction of research in the field of numismatics. The purpose of this study is to review and analyze the main directions of research of Frenchlanguage publications related to the coinage of the Bosporus as part of the Kingdom of Pontus. Pontic coins were one of the main tools with which the kings "played" their political propaganda game, according to the scholars of the University of Hellenic Studies in the thorough publication "Art used for Political Propaganda: The Case of Mithridates ". Coins in the Kingdom of Pontus, the minting of which was constantly changing, played an extraordinary role, because their issue in a particular territory meant giving it not only economic, but also political independence. The history of money circulation and minting of the Bosporan coin of the epoch of the Pontic Kingdom is the most controversial period for numismatists studying the coinage of the Bosporan Kingdom. Using the sources of ancient authors, archaeological finds, materials from other fields of knowledge, and the means of technological progress, French-speaking researchers, starting from the 19th century, have been improving and detailing the numismatic data of the Pontic region. For example, the in-depth studies of archaeologists and numismatists Paul Du Brux, Louis Colly, Théodore Reinach (19th century), our contemporaries – archaeologist Pascal Burgunder, numismatists Michel Amandry, F. de Callataÿ, Hélène Nicolet-Pierre and others, whose works are of particular value for the study of the historiography of the Bosporus coinage as part of the Kingdom of Pontus, are mentioned in this article. Even without expressly stating the research methodology applied to the study and dating of coins, almost all researchers over time, use the socalled cross-method and in particular to elucidate ambiguous and complex questions that often emerge in the context of the economic history of the Bosporus Kingdom as part of Pontus (features of images, constant changes in minting, peculiar taxation of this province as part of Rome).
