Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present an attempt at reviewing selected foundations made by members of the Lubomirski family of the Rzeszów line in the context of constructing the image of a dominium described as the “Rzeszów state”. Interdependencies between the emergence of the “Rzeszów state” and its concurrent legitimation—achieved through the construction, reconstruction, or modernisation of already existing buildings, especially in the capital of that “state”, the town of Rzeszów—are interesting to trace. Crucial to the Lubomirski family’s artistic policy was not so much making new foundations as skilfully continuing the achievements of their predecessors. In this way, the propagandistic effect created by these foundations was stronger, and the Lubomirskis were able to make direct references to the legacy of their predecessors. Such activity can be discerned in reference to the new family seat, formerly the castle of the Ligęza family, as well as to the three principal houses of worship: the parish church—a mausoleum of the Rzeszowski family, the Bernardine church—a mausoleum of the Ligęza family, and the Piarist church—the burial site for the hearts of the Lubomirskis.
