Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study is to analyze the coverage of the Holocaust theme in the works of Eastern and Central European film directors in the 1940s. The research methodology is based on the principles of objectivity, historicism, systematicity and the use of general scientific research methods. The method of collecting and analyzing information is visual analysis. Interpretation of the content of films and their ideas is used, the method of discourse analysis is used. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that an attempt has been made to study the coverage of the Holocaust theme in the films of Eastern and Central European directors of the 1940s in artistic, professional and social aspects. The post-premiere fate of films and their further functioning in the socio-cultural space (IMDB rating, YouTube video resource, national television channels and media services/streaming multimedia were analyzed. Conclusions. The directors of the 1940s (M. Dons`kyj, V. Yakubovska, O. Ford, A. Radok and N. Gross) were the first in world cinema to try to highlight certain aspects of the history of the Holocaust in the context of the Second World War in their work. The Jewish theme in the films made it possible to sharpen the moral and ethical issues presented in them as much as possible. The creativity of the directors of the 1940s definitely influenced and continues to influence the formation of the memory of the Holocaust in Ukrainian, Polish, Czech and Slovak society, contributed to the recognition of the Catastrophe as a special tragedy of the Jews at the state level. The researched films received professional and public recognition, became «golden classics» of the cinematography of Eastern and Central Europe.
