Summary/Abstract: Since the start of the war in Ukraine, international partners and the government of Ukraine have been declaring the need for reparations for victims of the armed conflict. However, there are currently no clear options for the source of these reparations, the mechanism for granting victim status, the procedure for granting reparations, or those responsible for this process. It is advisable to consider the success and effectiveness of the development and implementation of the above through the lens of Ukraine’s gender policy, which serves as a guarantee of compliance with the constitutional principle of prioritising the person over the state, recognising it as the highest social value. The issue of understanding gender equality in Ukraine remains a legal category that is undergoing normative transformation and reform, which is determined by the revision of approaches to the establishment of social roles performed by women and men. In Ukraine, the issue of gender equality is especially acute in the conditions of war, which has led to the justification of the understanding of gender policy and the specifics of its implementation through the prism of the principles of social sustainability, social justice, and reasonableness. Ukraine is not isolated in the implementation of global gender policy, which encompasses various programs, strategies, and plans. Accordingly, the effectiveness of implementing the national gender policy and ensuring its effectiveness to some extent directly depends on the processes that occur in the modern world. That is why, in the context of war threats, the understanding of gender equality, and, accordingly, the right to reparations, is becoming more and more of individual importance.
