Summary/Abstract: The article analyses statistical information on the Albanians of the Danube region in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries on the basis of archival materials contained in the confessional records of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in the village of Karakurt, Izmail district. The study allowed us to establish the quantitative composition of the village residents, their gender distribution; to identify the most and least numerous age groups among the male and female local population. For almost 35 years of history (1880-1913), the population of Karakurt demonstrated stable development and growth in terms of numbers, but in terms of percentage, the ratio between different age groups remained almost unchanged over this period. The most numerous in Karakurt were people aged 20 to 39 years - their number ranged from 27 to 33% of the total number of inhabitants both in 1880 und 1913. The article highlights some distinctive features that appeared in the development of the village over time and were associated with an increase in the proportion of unmarried adult residents (both male and female); recording in the records of double surnames of family heads, which was most likely necessary to identify the origin of certain families with the same surname. These materials allow us to take a fresh look at certain historical periods of Albanian life in the Danube region and are intended to promote regional history and genealogical research. The text contains many names and surnames written in accordance with the spelling of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
