Summary/Abstract: The article examines the phenomenon of codependency as one of the key factors in the formation of interpersonal conflicts. The historical evolution of the concept is considered, starting from its emergence in the context of alcoholism treatment to the modern understanding of codependency as a deeply rooted psycho-emotional pattern. The views of leading scholars (M. Beatty, P. Melody, C. Horney, A. Limankin, etc.) on the mechanisms, symptoms and consequences of codependent relationships are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the behavioral, emotional, and cognitive manifestations of codependency that lead to destructive patterns of interaction, including the need for control, self-denial, emotional manipulation, idealization of the partner, and erasure of personal boundaries. The author offers a historical analysis of the manifestations of codependency in interpersonal relationships in different epochs - from antiquity to modern times - with an emphasis on the changing socio-cultural contexts and the consequences of such interdependencies. Thus, the article demonstrates that codependency, having deep psychological roots, acts as a catalyst for conflict and requires a comprehensive interdisciplinary study.
