Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the potential of incorporating the service-learning approach into archival education in Poland, with a focus on fostering students’ ability to engage with and respond to the social environment of archival institutions. It also considers possible challenges and limitations that may arise in adapting this approach to the educational context. Drawing on a review of international literature, the study examines existing experiences with implementing service-learning in archival education. A set of activities that can be undertaken in archival studies education based on the service-learning approach has been formulated, and hypothetical challenges and limitations that may arise during the implementation of this process have also been identified. Despite certain obstacles – such as the time demands and the need to rethink how student learning outcomes are assessed – the findings suggest that service-learning can be an effective way to develop essential soft skills among future archivists, while also strengthening their sensitivity to the social role and responsibilities of archives.
