Summary/Abstract: The article discusses how advances in technology and automation have made the ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence, leadership, and creativity even more important, as these are areas where humans outperform machines. People who can effectively demonstrate communication skills along with technical competencies are in high demand, which is why the use of soft skills in the professional competence of maritime professionals is so valuable for the work of seafarers. The main soft skills required by maritime professionals are identified: attentiveness, teamwork skills, sociability, responsibility, etc. A number of methods for the formation and further development of soft skills in maritime professionals have been identified. Basic communication skills for seafarers play a crucial role in ensuring effective teamwork, smooth operation and overall success. Often overlooked, these skills are fundamental to seafarers' professional development. In this article, we will delve into the essential communication skills that seafarers need to thrive in their careers, including communication, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, work ethic, adaptability and interpersonal skills. The practical result of the study is a set of recommendations for improving the effectiveness of the use of soft skills in the professional competence of maritime specialists. The theoretical result is the identification of the main patterns of soft skills use in the professional competence of maritime industry specialists. Using the example of the maritime industry, it becomes clear that although technical skills are of undeniable importance, non-technical skills are equally important for ensuring the safety, efficiency and overall success of operations. Effective crew management requires a harmonious balance of both technical expertise and nontechnical skills to skillfully navigate the complex and dynamic environment that characterizes the maritime sector. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of these skills, it is necessary to develop organizational and methodological models for integrating soft-skills into the training of future seafarers, it will allow students of higher education in the maritime sector to realize the importance of soft skills in crew management, which is a critical change in the maritime industry's approach to safety and efficiency, to a healthier working environment where open communication and psychological safety are promoted. Especially in an era where machines and computers are starting to become better than humans at many tasks, it is becoming increasingly clear that there is one thing humans have an advantage over machines, and that is being human.
