THE RETURN OF CONFIDENCE: REMEMBRANCE, LOOKING FOR HEROES AND THE COMPLEXITY OF RECENT GERMAN FILM

Summary/Abstract: Recent trends in German cinema show a rising level of self-confidence amongst filmmakers. Topics which were considered earlier considered taboo, such as German heroes, were rarely, if ever the focus of German films. Over the course of the past decade, however, this has changed, with filmmakers more willing to present controversial subjects. This article seeks to show the development of this trend and to show the various methods filmmakers use to present complex issues.
