Summary/Abstract: Non-Catholic philosophy speaks about mysticism, but often reduces it to one of the dimensions of human inner life, emphasizing either the human intellect or the will or feelings. As a rule, this experience detaches from God Himself, preaching atheism or agnosticism. He sees religious experience asa subjective human experience that can only be understood from the perspective of anthropocentrism. The achievements of the school of morphology of religion can also be related to mysticism. M. Eliade and the proponents of the phenomenological method emphasize the common denominator of religious experience, which is based on the dialectic of the sacred and the profane. Therefore, it can be said some what paradoxically that supernatural experience is something natural, inscribed in human nature since the dawn of time. Therefore, it is not a mystical experience the result of human evolution, nor is it a symptom of any mental dysfunction or caused by the social conditions in which man lives. This experience is inscribed in human nature and is a natural reaction that occurs as a result of contact with the reality of the Numinosum. As far as the theory of altered states of consciousness is concerned, we can say that the new trend in psychology related to ASC has not yet been well developed, there is a lack of precise terminology, which is why there is still a discussion on the definition of the concept of “consciousness” itself. Moreover, an attempt to unify such diverse phenomena into a single ASC model is accused of reductionism and too hasty formulation of unjustified generalizations.
