Summary/Abstract: At the centre of this paper is a selected metaphor ‘Austria is a laboratory for Hungary’, whichwas introduced into the Hungarian coronavirus discourse by the Hungarian Prime Minister. Itwas not only quoted or reused in more than 50 Hungarian online media texts between 2020 and2021 but was also used by its author in 11 interviews and speeches. Following Siefkes’ (2013)discourse-semiotic approach, we will analyse the discursive dynamics of the metaphor in these11 texts, how it is repeated and further developed against the background of discourse-specifictext patterns
