Summary/Abstract: The article examines the content of foreign policy exposés delivered by Poland’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs between 1990 and 2015, with particular attention to references to historical anniversaries, their role, and their significance in declarations outlining Polish foreign policy and the construction of the state’s international image. The analysis identifies the most frequently invoked anniversaries – such as the end of the Second World War or the year 1989 as the beginning of Poland’s democratic transformation – and explores the ways in which anniversaries such as the commemoration of the 1943 Volhynia massacres were addressed. The study demonstrates that historical anniversaries played an important role for the ministers, especially during periods of ongoing armed conflicts, anticipated changes in Poland’s security environment, or moments in which the external promotion of the state was a priority (as in 2009 and 2018).
