Summary/Abstract: This report reviews the book “Music and its masters (A conversation on music)” (1891) by Anton Rubinstein and offers comments on its highlights. It also provides brief information about the book’s author, as well as about the musicologist Ivan Kamburov who translated it into Bulgarian (1919). The views of Anton Rubinstein, an influential figure in the musical art, follow the development of music and its peculiarities among different epochs and composers, and prove to be a meeting point for the current issues of today’s music and our understanding of it.
