Summary/Abstract: Through XX and XI century the portrait as a genre went through swift development. The rise of the photography and abstractionism mark the fall down of traditional painted portrait, while through the sixties of XX century artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein are reviving the portrait, transform it to icon of мmodern art. Since then inspiring painters like Francis Bacon, Alex Katz and Chuck Close to create some of the most emblematic portraits in the world. In spite of the fact that they have worked approximately in the same years, each of them had found a different motives for the creating of their portraits, remaining emblematic for their overall creativity. The desire to capture the individuality and the spirit of the person in modern times continues through the growing technological opportunities and innovations.
