Summary/Abstract: The Geneva Disarmament Conference (1932–1934) was a significant step on the path to a general disarmament. The issue of the Franco-German agreement proved to be one of the obstacles in reaching a final disarmament agreement. Paris acted as the defender of the interests of two Central European allies: Poland and Czechoslovakia. Their concerns were to be confirmed by the events of the following years, especially the political shift at the top of the political hierarchy in Berlin. The new Reich Chancellor (from January 30, 1933), Adolf Hitler, established the withdrawal from all treaty obligations and a return to the path of intensive rearmament as the basis of his foreign policy. The Reich Chancellor’s speech in the Reichstag on May 21, 1935 was a very interesting source, providing a comprehensive understanding of Hitler’s position on foreign policy challenges.
