Summary/Abstract: The article is a critical analysis of English language training and examination for determining the level of English proficiency in accordance with NATO STANAG 6001 within the Bulgarian Armed Forces. It presents the regulatory documents, the structure, tasks, and management of the English language training system in Bulgarian higher military educational institutions, Rakovski National Defence College in particular. The organisation of English language training at RNDC and the activities of the English Language Certification Team are analysed. Some problems are identified (including in regulatory documents such as ministerial orders), and suggestions for overcoming them are proposed.
