Summary/Abstract: The folk music of the Dong population in China is associated with traditional festivals and holidays, with the religious calendar and are dedicated to deities. Their application in tradition is accounted for in a given region and ethnic group with certain ritual actions. Many of the festivals are accompanied by themed songs, dances and festive attire. Actors are mostly women. Their purpose is to be preserved in time and to be passed on to the next generations with the specific ritual symbolism in the activities of each festival or celebration.
