A brief introduction to Chinese pentatonic modes

Summary/Abstract: The Chinese pentatonic modulation is widely used, has a long history in China, and has a great influence on Chinese culture and music. In the early works of art, the traditional use of pentatonic modulation is adopted, and this traditional use makes the musical works have more national charm. Observation of ancient and modern Chinese musical works shows that pentatonic modulation has strong national characteristics and artistic features, and is used in the music of all Chinese nationalities. In this paper, we will firstly briefly introduce the traditional Chinese and Western modes and briefly introduce the history and characteristics of the traditional Chinese pentatonic modes.
