Summary/Abstract: In the 1980, as China.s (mainland) policy of .Reform and Opening-up. was further put into practice, the political environment became increasingly open, resulting in closer Sino-Western exchanges. Western modern dance was reintroduced into China. The modern dance discipline establishment in China, on the one hand, gained benefit from the scientific training and creative theories and modern dance techniques itself; on the other hand, it stemmed from the need of China.s dance community to come up with a dance language that both belonged to the world and resembled its own culture in communicating with the outside world. In order to quickly form a presence in the global dance arena, and under favorable historical conditions, China (mainland) resumed the modern dance development in 1987 following a stagnant period of 30 years, albeit with certain limitations.
