Summary/Abstract: Despite the rapid technical progress that accompanies the maturation of adolescents, the role of the school as an institution responsible for acquiring a broad base of knowledge and skills, forming relationships necessary for their successful socialization and integration into the global world, is still significant. In the following lines, the author offers a retrospective of the main principles, methods and goals in one of the significant programs in music pedagogy of the 20th century - the „Program for Music Education in General Education Schools“ by Dmitry Borisovich Kabalevsky. Half a century later, the significant moments in the „Program“ and the possibilities for their application in contemporary conditions would likely contribute to the active role of musical art as an educational and enriching factor in the general education system.
