Summary/Abstract: The use of adnominal l-participles in Modern Bulgarian is sometimes considered to be a late, 19th-century innovation, emerging under the influence of Russian and other foreign languages. In this study, we will analyze the use of such participles in early modern texts from the 17th–19th century manuscript traditions. Although rare, examples of adnominal participles appear in place of different markers in Church Slavonic, suggesting that they were a productive vernacular feature.
