Summary/Abstract: Exactly when the fairs are born is difficult to be determined. It is considered they date back to antiquity. The origin of the trade show brings us back to the medieval markets, which are usually held in a well-known place, such as the main square of the city, and attract the attention of both locals and visitors from afar. Sometimes such a market is the main event of the year and a way to get news and share information. Over time, some of them grow, become more centralized and specialized, and finally become contemporary trade fairs. Although the way trade shows today look has changed dramatically, the concept is the same: the trade show is a place to show selected products or services, meet of different business and share information on the latest trends. Whatever we call them, exhibitions are special events that have a strong economic and political factor. They are an engine for promoting competition, a platform for demonstrating achievements, for national pride, even for demonstrating power. Regimes, dynasties, governments change, but they remain resilient over time and today have become an industry that can hardly be appreciated. In this report, I would like to make some terminological explanations and trace the process of development from the first industrial, strictly national exhibitions in France to the World Exhibition, which leaves us with the most emblematic symbol of Paris, which has become a distinctive brand of the city.
