Summary/Abstract: The increasing use of synthetic drugs represents one of the most significant challenges faced by modern forensic investigation. Unlike traditional narcotics, new psychoactive substances (NPS) are characterized by rapid chemical evolution, diverse toxicological profiles and limited availability of analytical standards, which often complicate the process of detection and interpretation in post-mortem examinations. This study explores the forensic and medico-legal aspects of investigating suspicious deaths associated with synthetic drug use, emphasizing the need for close cooperation between the forensic investigator, toxicologist and pathologist. The article emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in establishing both the cause and mechanism of death, as well as the social and criminal implications of synthetic drug consumption. It also discusses the growing need for national and international databases dedicated to emerging psychoactive substances, which would facilitate the identification of unknown compounds and support comparative toxicological research.
