Summary/Abstract: A highly politicized and problematic topic in the foundation of bilateral relations between Russia and the Republic of Moldova has been Transnistria (the strip of land that separates Ukraine from the Republic of Moldova) since the end of the 20th century. In the Transnistrian issue, Russia plays the role of a protective father, a defensive shield, by "protecting" the political and diplomatic statehood of the region between the Prut and the Dniester, including as a key member of the "5+2" negotiation format. This maintenance and supervision of the state of frozen conflict, at the level of the countries of the former Soviet region, has allowed and allows Russia to intervene in the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states in the region. In other words, Transnistria plays a central role in defending Russia's geopolitical interests regarding several sub-European regions. Therefore, we considered it appropriate to delve deeper into the frozen conflict character in Transnistria, being a topical topic, with a significant role in the system of international relations in Southeastern Europe.
