Summary/Abstract: Founded in 1924 on the Polish initiative, the Association of National Minorities in Germany consociated Poles, Danes, Northern Frisians, Lithuanians, and Lusatian Serbs represented by the People’s Lusatian Board. It became a platform for the collaboration between Poles and Lusatian Serbs. Jan Skala, a Sorbian man of letters, publicist and national activist, was the major contributor in this field. From 1924 he was the editor of “Kulturwille” periodical (in 1925 renamed “Kulturwehr”) – the ideological executive of the Association. In the years 1925-1928 Skala represented the Association of National Minorities in Germany in the negotiations concerning admission of the Northern Frisians into the European Congress of National Minorities. Skala, remembered both in Lusatia and in Poland, remains a symbol of mutual cooperation.
