Summary/Abstract: Quality education and lifelong learning are the basis of the human progress. Fourth goal from the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development is “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. The status and trends of the SDG 4 indicators at NUTS 2 level of Bulgaria is measured for the period 2015-2023 in the present work. The degree of variation in these indicators is measured and an aggregated assessment of the level of education of the population and lifelong learning opportunities in the statistical regions of Bulgaria is calculated. A comparative analysis between the indicator values for the regions and the average values for Bulgaria and the EU-27 is conducted. The Southwestern region has the most favourable values of the indicators for sustainable development. For some indicators, it surpasses the EU-27 average and has already reached the target values for 2030. As a result, it has the highest aggregated assessment of the quality of education and lifelong learning. This assessment is more than 180.0% higher than the average measure for Bulgaria. The Southeastern region has the lowest comprehensive assessment based on the values of the analysed SDG 4 monitoring indicators.
